Had you told someone, a few months ago, that a lethal pathogen would enter our life with a view to destroying us, he/she would have taken you to be mad and tagged you of being mentally unbalanced.
Now, it’s August 2020, and we all have brought some unbelievable terms and conditions in our lives because of the novel Coronavirus. Social distancing, bio-bubble and spending time with the family have become the part and parcel of our daily lives.

All the young generation were waiting eagerly for the sports to begin. And, to everyone’s relief, it has resumed with all the testing protocols and new conditions. Though the temperature of UEFA Champions League in football has risen so rapidly, Cricket is taking the higher steps slowly but steadily. Moreover, to make it more comfortable and enjoyable, BCCI, after receiving the Government’s permission, has decided to organize the mighty festival, the Indian Peremier League (IPL) in UAE instead of India from 19th September, 2020.
But of course, with what’s going around of late, we will witness AN UNFAMILIAR IPL 2020 with new rules and protocols. In this article, we will go through those new terms and conditions.
1. No More VIVO IPL :

VIVO will not be a part of the tittle sponsorship in the IPL 2020 following the political problems between India and China. They had retained the sponsorship rights for the 2018-2022 period which amounted INR 440 Crores per season. The previous sponsors DLF and PEPSI had took part in the tittle sponsors with INR 40 Crores and INR 80 Crores respectively. That means BCCI will be looking forward to a new tittle sponsor in the IPL which is not going to be easy because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, PATANJALI, AMAZON, DREAM 11 have shown interest of getting the rights. Although TATA & DREAM 11 seem to be the front runners. On 18 August, 2020, as we said DREAM 11 wins the bid at INR 222 Crores beating UNACADEMY and BYJUS. They will hold the tittle sponsorship from 18th August to 31st December, 2020.
No And Empty Stands :
Every player will surely feel the absence of the fans in the stands or the grass banks. Fans bring extra energy while cheering the names of Kohli and Rohit ; or “Dhoni Dhoni” when they walk to the middle, all will be missing in the ground. Though UAE government is thinking of geting some crowd in the later part of the league; it looks so unlikely to be possible.
3. Due to the spread of COVID-19 virus, teams will be unable to use saliva on the ball to shine it. Although, it will not make a big impact in T20 cricket.
4. Third umpires will do the job of checking the No-balls in the IPL 2020. This would give the on-field umpires an extra couple of seconds to breath. Also, there will be no boundary count rule in this year’s IPL just like the 2019 WC final. If a super over is tied, another super over will occur to get the proper result.
Don’t forget Abu Dhabi in 2014 had witness the boundary count rule between KKR & RR. Not this time around !!!
5. Change of Logo or Change of Luck : Will the change of logo transform into change of luck for Royal Challengers
Bangalore? In spite of having so many great players through out the years, the Virat Kohli led side haven’t enjoy a lot of success in the IPL. Many fans have said that change of colour and a new fresh name was one of the key features for the Delhi Capitals to be included into the playoffs. Will we observe the same with RCB ?

6. New Timings : The IPL-2020 will see its final to be held in a weekday i.e. on Tuesday, November 10 because of the BCCI want to spread the games due to the hot weather of UAE. Also, the evening and the afternoon games will begin 30 minutes earlier than its actual time i.e. 7:30pm & 3:30pm serially.
7. Teams will fly to the UAE in charter flights from 27th August. Teams like Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi have thoughts of making their own camps before landing in UAE.
8. Families are allowed to be with the players only if the franchisees permit. But, they will not be allowed to go to the field during the game or the training. Anyone who breaks the bio-protocols, will have to pass through a 7-day quarantine period and receive two negative PCR tests before entering the bubble.
These remain some of the new rules in the IPL 2020. We may not enjoy the same flavour of the IPL 2020, but the saying is “Half a Loaf is better than no Loaf”.
