Cricket is a gentle man's game, played among the most wonderful and skillful players around the globe. It requires both the physical and mental ability to play the game. It’s not only a game but a religion in our country, India.
It’s impossible to live in India without getting affected by the love-wave of bat and ball. I mean, if you are given a chance to part our nation, we may end up by dividing on those who love Cricket and those who worship Cricket. So, all in all, it’s going to be so much necessary for us to know about some refreshing facts in the history of game. In the first part of the article, we had discussed about 15 interesting facts of the list.
As I have promised you to bring the second part of the article on 11th of May, now let’s see how many we can add in this part to make it more exciting.
Sri Lankan all-rounder Sanath Jayasuriya has taken more ODI wickets than Australian lengendary leg spinner Shane Warne. Jayasuriya has picked up 323 wickets whereas Warne has 30 less i.e 293 wickets in his tally in the 50-over format.
Indian ex-skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has no century in his name outside Asia i.e India, Bangaladesh, Sri Lanka , Pakistan and United Arab Emirates (UAE). [ He hasn’t played in Nepal or Afghanistan.] The wicket keeper batsman has scored Six test centuries and 9 ODI tons , but all of them have came in the Asian countries.
Though men's Cricket and their World Cup is so much renowned than Women's Cricket and their World Cup. But, We all should know that women’s WC was held in 1973, 2years before the initial men's World Cup. I will suggest all of you to follow women’s Cricket, it’s really really fantastic to watch.
There is a long list of terms that are used only in the game of Cricket and “Nelson” is one of them. Do you know what’s that ? Actually Nelson means the unlucky score of 111 that means 3 wickets without the bails on. Some of the superstitious fans had developed a custom of lifting one foot or boot off the ground untill a change in the score. The name has been derived from Englishman “Lord Horanto Nelson”.
The premiur Speed star from Pakistan Wasim Akram has a highest test score of 257 which came on October 20, 1996. This unbeaten 257 was the highest test score of a number eighth batsman. Interestingly, the 257* is more than the God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar's highest test knock of 248* which he smashed against Bangladesh in 2004. Is Wasim Akram aware of this stat ??
No ball is something that a batsman will always want to have whereas a bowler will not want to think of it. But to save them from delivering a “No-ball”, bowlers should maintain a proper discipline. And Piyush Chawla has done it quite impressively. He has bowled 400 overs in IPL without delivering a no-ball. Just think how discipline he is !!!
Playing against the Indian side, the Australian left arm leg-spinner (Chainaman), Brad Hogg had the better of India's prolific batsman, Sachin Tendulkar. Hogg Asked Sachin to sign a photograph of the dismissal to keep the memory fresh. Tendulkar signed and wrote,“ It will never happen again” and it didn’t happen again.

Those rare players are Lance Klusener (South Africa) , Abdul Razzaq (Pakistan) , Hashan Tillakaratne (Sri Lanka) and Shoaib Malik (Pakistan). In the history of 12 years of IPL and obviously the 2020 IPL which is for now couldn’t be able to kick off due to COVID-19, the Kings Eleven Punjab (KXIP) team management have changed their captains as many as 12 times. So, they can easily field a playing XI with all the captains. The 12man captains army are – Yuvraj Singh, Kumar Sangakara, Mahela Jayawardene, Adam Gilchrist, David Hussey, Jorge Bailey, Virendra Sehwag, David Miller, Murli Vijay, Glenn Maxwell, Ravichandran Ashwin and the last appointed skipper KL Rahul. They are really consistant in changing their captains.
Vinod Kambli's test match average is better than his childhood friend and the God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar. The 100 centurian averages 53.78 after playing record 200 tests. Though his friend, Kambli Playing 17 test matches has a test average of 54.20 with two back to back double tons.
The shortest test match was played between Australia and South Africa in 1932. SA, winning the toss, opted to bat and bundled out for just 36 runs in 23.2 overs. Australia replied with 153runs in 54.3 overs. But SA with a trail of 117 runs coming to bat for the second time, posted 45 runs in 31.3 overs to lose the game in 109.2 overs, which is the least number of overs taken by a team to win a game.
Indian with most T20 international runs is Mitali Raj. She was also the first Indian to reach 2000 run landmark in T-20s.
Indian pacer Ishant Sharma can be considered responsible for all the three maximum scores made against India by the opponent batsman in the 21st century. Are you thinking how did it occur ?? Let’s show you the prove.
English batsman Alastair Cook, Australian Michael Clarke and Kiwi batsman Brendon McCullum all were batting below 50 when Ishant Sharma dropped their catches. Later on, Cook went on to score 294 in 2011, Clarke smashed a mammoth 329 in 2012 and McCullum posted 302 runs in 2014 respectively.
